[teenager] I don't wanna be a teacher. Father! 😤

My father, now retired, was a high school teacher. Maybe because of that and the job stability, he often encouraged me to become a teacher when I was young. But as a student filled with unfounded rebellion against teachers, I really disliked the idea of teaching at school. Teaching the same subjects every year seemed boring, so I said I wanted to do something more challenging instead of such repetitive work.

[20s] However, instead, I became an HRDer... 🏢

I majored in business administration in university and in my late twenties, I joined a fairly large company in Korea—a distribution company that owns buildings you’d see if you visit Korea. After working as a store manager in a department store for over a year, I was transferred to headquarters and assigned to the HRD team(Human Resource Development). This team handles employee education and training related to job duties, leadership, and more. Ironically, I joined the company because I didn’t want to be a teacher, yet I ended up spending over three years in the HRD team, conducting training(teaching) for everyone from interns to executives.

[30s] People studying Korean who stimulate my sense of challenge. 🇹🇭

I’ve been with my foreign spouse for over 20 years since I met her. We have two children, and our entire family lives in my wife’s country, not in Korea. So I’ve been watching foreigners (my spouse and friends) and mixed-heritage individuals (my kids) learning Korean every day for a very long time. Seeing them study Korean, it seemed they were learning it the hard way. As something of an HRD professional(?), I felt compelled to take on the challenge, which is why I started 'GRD KOREAN with Ji'.

[30s] Is this truly the path I’m meant to follow? 👍

About four years ago, I casually launched the course on an educational platform to gauge reactions. People from as many as ten countries purchased my course, and I received heartfelt feedback as well.

Given various circumstances, I thought, “Ah… this might be my role. Let’s apply my creativity to teaching Korean language. Wow, dozens of foreigners studying Korean from as many as 10 countries really love my lectures?”

[now] Like father, like son?! 🧑‍🏫

I put in extra effort to refine the lecture content I had previously created, re-recorded them, and set up this independent website. I don’t know what the future holds for GRD KOREAN. However, even if there’s just one person(that's you), and if that one person consistently watches the lectures I upload and studies diligently, I want to continue GRD KOREAN for that one person.

Therefore, I plan to run GRD KOREAN without big ambitions. I would be truly grateful if you could join me, keeping your desire to learn Korean with joy and without any pressure.

Thank you! 😄
감사합니다! 😊
